Scenario: I would like to record how much time I spend working in my group.
Background information: These are the most basic of all punches. All group members are capable of performing them. When you perform a simple live punch on XPunch, you will be able to track how much time you spent working in your group. When you need to quickly punch out, the express punch-out option is useful. |
Video: watch how to perform a basic punch in the video below.
Text version:
A punch is an adult drink that many people like to consume at a party. No, no. That's not the type of punch that I'm referring to here. This type of punch is much less popular with people. No, instead, today we will be talking about punching into a task at work.
We will be talking about the most basic punch of them all in XPunch: we will be talking about punching into a task that is not associated with a project or a client. We will cover those situations in a different help entry and video.
Let's choose a task that everyone enjoys: email. It's one of those things that people spend a lot of time on, and they have no clue how much time they spend doing email. Often when they find out how much time they have been spending on this task, it's enough to drive them toward crazy deeds.
So let's sign in to XPunch and navigate over to the punches view.
1. Click on the menu icon.
2. Click on the "Punches" menu item
Now, from there, we want to locate the floating action button. In technical jargon, this is called the FAB button. Depending on your XPunch version, you may find this button located in the lower right-hand corner or near the top left corner of your screen.
3. Click on the FAB button.
4. We will do a basic live punch in so click on the "punch-in" floating action button.
You will see a punch-in dialogue appear.
Now what you want to do here is click on the task field and select a task from the list. The list shows your accessible tasks in alphabetical order. Choose a task and click on it. In our example, we will choose email. After you've selected your task, click on the punch-in button.
5. Choose or add a task from the "Task" field and click "Punch-in"
If you do not see any tasks, it's because no one has set any up in the configuration section. All you will be able to do is record your time without identifying what you spent your time on.
Congratulations! You have just punched into your first punch. Of course, there are many employers that would like you to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and there are many of us that are workaholics. However, XPunch protects you from yourself by limiting the maximum number of hours that you can work on a task. In other words, you will eventually have to either drop dead from working, or you will have to punch out from your task.
Let's take a look at how to punch out of a live task.
Go to the exact location that we were at before and click on that same button, the floating action button, and then click on the "express out" FAB.
It's as simple as that.
We have just seen the Super duper Uber simple version of punching into a live punch and then punching out. You should know that there is much more that you can do with a punch than just this, and we will deal with this in a separate help entry and video.
